Bearable Pain

One immediate physical and mental sensation that we probably can't ignore is Pain.

It's amazing to discover that Pain can be bearable, if we choose to manage our mindset properly.

Scenario:

When a patient walks in to the operation theater, he will scan through the apparatus on the surgery tray, and the medical equipment. Following that, he will observe the faces of the people in the OT, including the surgeon. These actions are all normal reaction of a human instinct, yet all derives from the fear factors.

Similarly, when I walked into the surgical room, I did all the above. The apparatus looked unfriendly, as were the equipment. When fear arose, I started to see shadows of triggering pain from the surgeon's and nurses' face. After all, they were the ones who were going to use those stuffs on me, hence, I couldn't help but felt at their mercy.

The strange thing is that when you allow fear to engulf you, the slightest pain appears most intolerable.

The threshold level for pain dips down to its lowest, and before you really feel anything, you are mentally hurt and subconsciously expecting pain.

It all happened to me as well, but in a fast thought, I figured that fear devil was trying to play a trick on me. I chose to confront it face up.

I chose to believe that the surgeon and medical staff had no reason to instill pain to me, as I was the one who approached them for help, and they were simply rendering such assistance. Looked again at the medical apparatus and equipment, I discovered that they were not at all unfriendly, they looked helpful instead. They were not invented and developed to create pain and sufferings, they were made to solve problems of suffering patients.

In the middle of the procedure, I experienced sensations of physical torment, but they were all very bearable. Mind over matters, indeed, it helped overcome physical pain. Knowing and appreciating the efforts of the people who were inevitably caused the pain you underwent, made you realized that you can lessen pain if you wish to.

I focused myself and gathered the strength to overcome, by engaging thoughts of good moments, and allow love to do anesthetic work. Perhaps I was a little too distant away from reality, my eyes glimmered with thoughts of sweetness. It puzzled the surgeon, and the surgeon asked if I was enjoying pain. Funny, but practical question. I merely said that I was handling and enduring pain.

Now I understand better. Willing to accept the goodness of human nature, that no one would hoped to inflict pain onto another. Things happened as they were meant to, it's about coping with them in a positive approach.

When you visualize that everything in life is worth the efforts, even the pain suffered is worth. I had learnt a new lesson today, hadn't I?
